All Staff
Do: Know your responsibilities. Ensure your project has a safety plan. Assess risk actively. Keep contractors informed of their obligations. Document all events. Always use PPE. Speak up if you see an issue.
Don't: Walk past a safety concern. Put yourself at risk without mitigation. Succumb to pressure to compromise on safety. Forget to use common sense.
Health & Safety Advisor
Conducts site inspections and audits, reviews HS performance across all projects, supports Project Managers with risk assessments and contractor evaluation, monitors legislative changes, and ensures all incidents are investigated with timely corrective action. Emergency procedures are documented and tested at intervals not exceeding 12 months.
Roles & Responsibilities
Safety is a shared responsibility across every level of our organisation.
Project Managers
Responsible for overall site safety monitoring. Develops a Project Safety Plan, maintains the Project Risk Assessment, manages contractor compliance, investigates incidents, and monitors corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Safety helmet, safety footwear, and high-visibility clothing are mandatory on all N-Art project sites at all times. Additional PPE must be worn as required for specific tasks. All PPE must be used correctly, maintained properly, and never misused.
Noise Control: Where noise levels prevent normal voice communication at 2 meters, ear protection is mandatory. Prolonged exposure to high noise levels can cause permanent hearing damage.
Working at Heights
Only authorised and competent personnel may erect, operate, or dismantle access equipment — including cherry pickers, scissor hoists, alloy towers, and scaffolding. All height works require a valid work permit before commencement.
Scaffolding
must be certified by a professional engineer after every erection, with properly braced uprights, secured horizontal members, and sound footings.
Ladders
must be free from defects, placed at a 75-degree angle on firm footing, securely fastened, and projected at least 900mm above the landing. One person must hold the ladder at all times. Metal ladders must never be used for electrical work.
Electrical Safety
All machines and tools must be of an approved make. Control panels must be installed under shelter. Live wire connections must be protected with insulation tape and industrial connectors used at all cable joints. Supply cables must be fixed at a minimum of 6 meters above ground level. Full compliance with requirements directed by the electrical inspectorate or local authority is mandatory.
Electrical shock affects two critical functions of the body: breathing and blood circulation.
Fire Prevention & Controls
The following are mandatory on every N-Art project: ignition sources and flammable materials must be assessed and risks controlled; escape routes must be clearly marked, monitored, and accessible at all times; emergency lighting and a clearly audible alarm system must be operational; appropriate fire-fighting equipment must be available on site and ready for immediate use.

Risk Assessment
Conducted by the Project Manager at the earliest project stage, communicated to the principal contractor at tender, and updated at critical milestones throughout.
Project HS Plan
The Project Manager oversees the preparation of a detailed Project Health & Safety Plan by the principal contractor, using dedicated templates for both Project Management and Construction Management.
Checklists & Work Permits
Required from all principal contractors — covering PPE, signage, excavation, demolition, scaffolding, ladders, storage, hot works, plant and machinery, and vehicles. Work permits with Safe Work Method Statements are required for excavation, night work, hot work, electrical works, working at height, confined spaces, erection, and lifting equipment.
